The Emin Valley is located on the China-Kazakhstan border with an area of about 65,000 square kilometers. It has an ecosystem of mostly grassland and steppes with two saline lakes and temperate mountains. In a wider context, it lies within the vast Eurasian Steppe.
Lake Alakol and Lake Sasykkol are found in this area, and are the homes of the rare Dalmatian pelican and Relict Gull.
