Emma Gertrude Wheeler was born in 1867 in Ellery New York, the daughter of Henry and Mary Wheeler. For most of her youth, she lived with her grandmother after her mother had died and father remarried. She married twice, first to Eugene Pickard, and after he died, to William Daniel Harrington. She had at least 8 children, of which only 3 survived to adulthood. Emma died in Jamestown, New York in 1929.

Emma Gertrude Wheeler was born on July 8, 1867 in Ellery, Chautauqua County, New York to Henry Wheeler and Mary Jeanette Stom. She was living with her parents in Ellery in the 1870 census. Emma's mother died in 1875, when Emma was eight years old. Her father remarried to Louise Carpenter about 1877. Sometime before 1880, Emma went to live at the household of her grandmother, Sarah (Pickard) Stom. However, she is listed as "servant" in the census. Her father is in the 1880 census with second wife Louise Carpenter and son Case.
Emma married Eugene F. Pickard, son of John F. Pickard and Emaline Klock, in the 1880s and they had at least two children. Their first child, Golda, died young. Eugene died on July 7, 1890. Emma married secondly to William Daniel Harrington, son of Alexander Harrington and Roxy Ann Waite, about 1892. They had at least three children. She was baptized on April 14, 1910 at the Methodist Episcopal Church, Sinclairville, New York with her husband and two of her sons. In the late 1920s, William and Emma lived at 206 McKinley Avenue in Jamestown, New York.
Emma died on January 19, 1929 in Jamestown General Hospital in Jamestown, New York. The funeral was held at the household of her son, Earl Pickard. The Reverend Lewis George of Sinclairville Baptist Church officiated. The bearers were William Sylvester, H. E. Van Etten, Claire Grant, Ralph Carpenter, Stephen Joslyn, and George Shutt. She is buried in Red Bird Cemetery, Ellery, Chautauqua County, New York with her first husband, Eugene F. Pickard.
