Eoin played for the Gonzaga College Panthers from 2004-2006, reaching the final of the Leinster Forsters Cup in 2006[1]. Unfortunately, he broke a metacarpal in the semi-final victory against Blackrock College and subsequently missed the final. Former head Coach, Gareth Pelly, has gone on record saying Eoin's abrasive physical presence was sorely missed and one of the primary reasons for the defeat at the hands of Belvedere College in the final.
He also won the Leinster Junior league in 2003[2].
After finishing his schooling, despite interest from numerous clubs, Eoin chose to play for Wanderers[3]. He quickly settled into the Academy side and forged a formidable Second Row partnership with Fergus O'Higgins. According to speedy winger Daniel Bergin, his "athleticism in the air meant we were unrivalled come line-out time".
After a successful time learning his trade in the academy the future looked bright for this prodigous talent, and it has been suggested by leading Wanderers board members that he could take over from Malcolm O'Kelly in the Leinster side if he could deliver on his extraordinary early promise.
However the summer of 2008 brought about an interesting twist in his career.
After a summer long pursuit, UCD persuaded Eoin to sign on the dotted line and become a member of the famed Collidge Super 4s. He has been quoted as saying "nothing gives me more pride than running onto the pitch in my college colours."
The chance to play for such a talented side, and the opportunity to combine his studies with his rugby career meant this was an opportunity he grabbed with both hands and expectations are high.
In the off season, Eoin is known as a passionate competitor in tetrathlons[4]. It allows him to keep his fitness levels up while rugby takes a back burner for the summer months. The different challenges provided by this sport allows him to keep both physically and mentally fresh. Tetrathlons have been attributed to his well renowned mental toughness, which has won Collidge more than their fair share of games, which is a prerequisite in the grueling sport of tetrathlon.
