Everett Sylvester Doty was born 10 September 1914 in McHenry County, Illinois to Sylvester Sylvanis Doty (1885-1953) and Emma Augusta Kiel (1890-1983) and died 28 April 1974 in Rockford, in Winnebago County, in Illinois, at the age of 59 years of unspecified causes. Everett Sylvester married Lucille Barbara Mengs 22 June 1934 in Woodstock, McHenry County, Illinois. Everett Doty enlisted in the United States Marines on August 15, 1940. He was sent for training to San Diego, California. On October 14, 1940, he shipped out aboard the aircraft carrier Saratoga for Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, when it was bombed by the Japanese. He served in the Pacific during World War II until he was wounded in action, at which time he was a sargeant. He received the purple heart for his sacrifice.[1]
