Exanimus was a Massively Multiplayer Online Game MMOG under development by TMSGames. The game is set in a world where the dead roam the earth eating the flesh of the living. While most of the world is dead, there are small pockets of survivors that exist in barricaded cities scattered across the globe. Players of Exanimus would have the option of playing as a living survivor or as one of the dead roaming the earth. Exanimus would allow players to experience a Massively multiplayer online game based in a horror genre by creating a dark and visually "intense" environment. Exanimus was expected to be rated "Mature" and not intended for anyone under the age of 18.
Exanimus was first announced in 2006. Currently, only initial concept art and game play information have been released to the public, but several media sites have been running features and interviews with the TMSGames development team. Exanimus was expected to be released for PC with the possibility of additional clients for Macintosh and next-gen consoles.
As of October 19th, 2008, development for Exanimus has been suspended.
All players would start out with a human. From there they would be able to choose to play as a survivor or as an outcast. There would have been different professions for the Human players to choose from. Each one of these professions would have been critical for the survival of the human players and teams protecting the city.
Little is known about the way players would be able to play as a Zombie. A player choosing to become a zombie could become one any time they wish, although the means by which this is accomplished has not been officially disclosed. Zombie players would also have some different class choices to offer a variety of choices on character customization.
The game was set after a few years of the rise of the dead where the environment has begun to decay due to neglect and damage. Based on concept artwork and interviews with the developers, players would be able to explore both urban and rural environments. The developers has said that they intended to make the environments visually intense creating a "horror" feeling.
While crafting in the game has only been briefly discussed, during an interview with Stratics at GDC 08 senior producer Charles Terry of TMSGames indicated that there would be vehicle crafting in the game:
|“||Depending on your class of character, you would find a vehicle crafter. He will basically be able to pull up a blueprint in some way… and say ‘These are the materials I need.’ You would go out and scavenge the parts, bring them back to the city, he will throw it together for you… and that’s how you get your vehicle.||”|
While the developers have said they planed for regular content updates, the possibility of expansion packs have been hinted by the TMSGames Senior Producer:

There is no current information about the frequency of content updates or pricing information for expansions.

Exanimus is a mmofpsrpg, that's a mouthful, based around the zombie survival genre. It had a large forum based community (until the server up and died) that spanned from the original website into seperate free server factions and about pages. Exanimus's community is still very much alive even though the main webpage has been down for over 61 days. Recent Wiki posts tell of Exanimus members calling TMS HQ and asking about exanimus recieving promises of a change of exanimus's main page as a show of good faith.
