From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fast and Secure Protocol (FASP) is an alternative to transmission control protocol (TCP) developed by Aspera Inc. It is currently being promoted by Amazon.com in association with its cloud computing services as a way to greatly accelerate the rate of data transfer over the public Internet. [1] In tests, FSAP has been shown to perform 22 times better than standard TCP over short distances with relatively little packet loss and up to 800 times better over longer distances with more significant packet loss.[2] [3] These speed increases are achieved by sending larger packets than TCP, not waiting for confirmation that a packet has been received before sending the next one, and only resending packets that are confirmed as having been dropped (instead of more aggressively slowing the data transfer, which TCP does to avoid overloading the network).[4]
