Fateh Pur ( Urdu فتح پور), a newly established (1980's) but most developed city in District Layyah, got status as Sub-Tehsil (since January 7, 2007,) in Tehsil Karor (Laal Eason). It has a large population of approximately 1,300,000 people (estimated in July, 2009). Approximately more than 95% of total population consists of the migrants from Indian Punjab (1947) which settled in Fateh Pur after leaving central Punjab in 1970’s and later. The city is famous for its well planned ifrastructure development, clean and broad roads and streets and civilized population. Due to brave people of the area, it is also called the residence of TIGERS of THAL.
As far as her geographic location is concerned, it is situated at Main Karachi-Islamabad road which is considered as the fifth busiest road of the country. Fateh Pur offers direct public transport to the whole District Layyah people around the clock (24 hours) including other cities like: Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Mir Pur (AJK), Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawer, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar,Haronabad Multan, Faisalabad, Mianwali, Dera Ismaeel Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Gujrat, Sailkot, Sargodha and many other cities of Pakistan.
Administratively, Fateh Pur is divided into ten blocks and two Union Councils (Urban and Rural). The Rural Union Council also includes in it some villages (Chak No. 106, 107, 129, 115, 109 T.D.A etc) and Pir Chhattar Sharif. Each Union Council is administrated by NAZIM, a NAIB NAZIM, 8 general councilors and three special councilors (each reserved for Farmer, Lady and Minority). Fateh Pur is considered as the best centre of education, health and business with the best hospitals, educational institutes and well developed markets and shopping centers in the D.G. Khan division. There are 4 colleges, a boy’s degree college, Technical College, Commercial College and a Government Postgraduate Girl’s College. According to the recent survey (2009) of a local NGO "Regional Youth Development Organization" (RYDO), approximately 16,000 (12.322% of total Population) students of all ages and levels are studying in these schools and colleges. According to a survey made by a local student based NGO (Fateh Pur Science Council) in 2007, the literacy rate in urban and rural areas of Fateh Pur is approximately 79 percent and 53 percent respectively. Fateh Pur is considered as the most important place for religious education. There are many religious institutes (Madaris) serving in the field of religious education including; Hifz-ul-Quran, Quranic translation, Explanation (Sharah / Tafseer), Knowledge of Precepts with interpretation, Sarf-o-Nahv, Arabic language etc. It is notable that all of these institutes are also giving their students the formal education as in schools and colleges. Being an agricultural area, Common crops sown in surrounding areas of Fateh Pur are cotton, sugarcane, wheat, rice, cereal crops etc. Gardening and fruit production (Date, Mango, Water melon, Mellon and Citrus fruits) is also an important source of income. Veterinary development is a common feature of such an important agricultural land. So, different types of useful animals (Buffaloes, Cows, Goats, Sheeps, Camel and Poultry etc) are grown for milk and meat production. Keeping in view the potential of this region , Ch. Pervaiz Ilahi (Chief minister of Punjab) initiated a project on milk collection and dairy development in Layyah city and established different milk collection centres in different towns of the district.
The climate of the region is extremely hot. An average is +40 °C in the summer and +10 °C in the winter. The temperature in the winter is low due to Koh-e-Suleman mountains range situated nearby. The land is comparatively better developed agriculturally as compared to other areas of the district of Layyah. The river Indus flows (north to south) on the western side of the city at a distance of 30km.
