Fibrosis is the presence of excessive collagen in an organ or tissue. Since collagen is a normal constituent of most organs and tissues, it is the amount of collagen, rather than its mere presence, that defines fibrosis. Scarring is confluent fibrosis that obliterates the architecture of the underlying organ or tissue.

Examples of fibrosis in various organs
