The Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance consists of two awards: Critic’s Award for Best Actor & Critic’s Award for Best Actress. Although this award was considered a special award for best performermance by either sex, in 1998 the award was officially divided into two separate categories for female and male actors respectively. The actors are awarded without prior nomination for a performance.

Tabu and Manisha Koirala are the dominant force of these awards, with 4 and 3 awards respectively. Actors who have won the award twice include (in chronological order): Manoj Bajpai, Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji.
