History

FitDay began as a personal computer software application written by two Boston programming entrepreneurs, Jim and Russ Determan (brothers), in 2002.[1] Subsequently, the brothers launched an internet version of the software on the domain FitDay.com. Internet Brands acquired FitDay in 2008, though the Determans continue to lead development of the site/software.[2] The site operates in Internet Brands' Health category along with health-focused sites such as 3FatChicks, CancerForums.net, and HealthNews.org.[3]

Features and Usage

The purpose of the website and the software is to track calorie consumption, calorie burning, weight loss goals, and various aspects of physical fitness. By entering all food and beverage consumption into the site/software, users maintain a food diary that tracks variables such as calorie, fat, carbohydrate, mineral, and vitamin intake. The application contains an extensive nutritional values database. By tracking physical activity, the site/software monitors progress toward weight loss goals.[4]

Awards

  • Lifehacker named FitDay one of the "five best weight-management tools" in 2009.[5]
  • PC World chose FitDay as a top fitness site in 2008.[6]
