Fragile (original Spanish title Frágiles) is a 2005 Spanish horror film directed by Jaume Balagueró. It was filmed between Barcelona, Spain and the Isle of Wight, England. The movie has had several release dates around the world since its original release in October 2005.
Amy Nicholls is the new night nurse at the Mercy Falls Hospital on the Isle of Wight. Her colleague Helen Perez introduces her to the eight children. These are the only patients in the decrepit hospital, which still operates only because of overload after a railway accident. The orphan Maggie is very mysterious, she suffers from cystic fibrosis. The girl talks about a Charlotte who is said to haunt the second floor, which is abandoned since 1959. One day Amy is stuck in the elevator with the young patient Simon, who suffered a double femoral fracture. Caretaker Roy cannot help her. Amy comes to know that Maggie was friends with her predecessor Susan who resigned because she was afraid. When Amy goes to Susan's home, she comes to know that the nurse died in a traffic accident. After watching a Sleeping Beauty animated feature, Maggie talks about kissing with Amy. Later the young nurse talks about the afterlife with two old women and gets a butterfly image from an autistic boy. She is desperate to solve the mystery about Charlotte. When Roy tries to pack the dice, which Maggie uses to communicate with Charlotte, he dies. On the second floor, in a room decorated with butterflies, Amy finds an old photo which shows a girl in a wheelchair together with a nurse and a film which show this girl at a medical treatment of Osteogenesis imperfecta. Amy tells Dr. Robert that she saw the "mechanical girl". Thereupon they begin to prepare the stampede. When Amy is looking for help, she comes to know that the nurse at that time broke the girl's bones and murdered the child. Then the nurse wearing the girl's frame hurled herself into the shaft of the elevator. Robert finds a file which reveals that the girl was called Mandy; Charlotte was the nurse. While the others flee, Maggie has gone upstairs again to get her blanket. Amy saves her from Charlotte's ghost, but Maggie dies in her arms. Amy averts her death at the last moment - by a kiss from Maggie.
