Frank J. Magill (born 1927) is a senior United States federal judge.


Early life and education

Magill was born in Verona, North Dakota. He received a B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service in 1951. He received a M.A. from Columbia University in 1953. He received an LL.B. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1955.

Professional career

Magill served in the United States Navy Seaman from 1945 to 1947.

Magill worked in private law practice in Fargo, North Dakota from 1955 to 1986.

Federal judicial service

Magill was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Magill was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on January 21, 1986, to a seat vacated by Myron H. Bright. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on March 3, 1986, and received his commission on March 4, 1986.

Magill assumed senior status on April 1, 1997.


Magill's daughter, M. Elizabeth Magill, is a law professor at the University of Virginia School of Law.
