Spring Hill is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hernando County, Florida, United States. The population was 69,078 at the 2000 census, and was estimated to be 85,894 in 2005 by the American Community Survey.
The school day is composed of eight 45-minute classes. A broad range of course offerings include exceptional student education, career and technical courses and high level academics. The school also has a dual enrollment program through Pasco-Hernando Community College as well as Advanced Placement courses on campus and through Florida Virtual School.
During the 2008-2009 school year, the farewell speech written by Jem Lugo, the school's valedictorian, was rejected. The school's principal rejected the original speech for being "too individualized" and "too personal". The Senior class sponsor, Nancy Urling, also calling her original speech "appalling", told her to rewrite her speech or someone else would be chosen. The Harvard-bound student read a revised, but not as creative speech at the school's graduation ceremony. Lugo said that the speech "wasn't my voice" and "was not who she was while a student at that school."
