Freddie Stewart (1925-2000) was a singer with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and is the father of April Stewart. He was born Morris Joseph Lazar on March 25, 1925 the son of a cantor. He was forced to drop out of school and work as a clerk to help support his family. He found work with the Catskills Resort Area and introduced himself with a more suitable marquee name, Freddie Stewart. He chose this stage name in honour of actors Freddie Bartholomew and James Stewart. During the 1940s, he starred in a number of films in which his character is named Freddie Trimball. Stewart at one time hosted a nightclub in Miami Beach named Freddie Stewart's Matchbox, but it soon went defunct. He has been married and divorced three times and had several children, including a daighter, April.

There is an article for Tommy Dorsey himself, but not for the orchestra.
