Career

Discovered on the streets of her native Denmark by a modeling agent passing by in a taxi,[2] Erichsen made her debut as a model in 2005 at the fall Paris and Milan shows of Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Miu Miu (which she opened). She continues to walk the runways of New York, Paris, Milan and also London, both in the Ready-to-wear and Haute Couture seasons. Erichsen has walked for Chanel, Dior, Gucci, Burberry, Alexander Wang, Prada, Balmain, Balenciaga, Christian Lacroix, Zac Posen and Sonia Rykiel, among many others.

She has appeared in advertising campaigns for brands such as Balenciaga, Jil Sander, Gucci, Hugo Boss, H&M, CK by Calvin Klein, Hermès, Chanel, Gianfranco Ferré, Pringle of Scotland, Emporio Armani, Roberto Cavalli and Chloé. She is one of the faces of the fragrance Gucci by Gucci along side Natasha Poly and Raquel Zimmermann, and starred in the television advertisement directed by David Lynch. She was also the face of the Calvin Klein fragrance IN2U.

She has appeared in editorials for many prestigious fashion magazines, inluding Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris, British Vogue, Interview Magazine, W Magazine, American Harper's Bazaar, Numéro, i-D, Vogue Russia and V. Erichsen has also featured on the covers of the Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian editions of Vogue, V, W Magazine, Purple, Numéro (on both the French and Korean editions) and Russian Harper's Bazaar.[3]

Erichsen has had a number of fashion items named after her, including the Jill Stuart Freja handbag [4], the Chloé Freja clutch, and the Alexander Wang Freja Lace-Up Stiletto Boot with Zip Detail.[5]

She is ranked 5th on the Top 50 Models Women List, a ranking she shares with Canadian model Jessica Stam.[6]

Personal Life

Erichsen was educated at Frederiksberg Gymnasium.[7]

She enjoys listening to the music of PJ Harvey, the Danish group Kira and the Kindred Spirits[8], Janis Joplin and Jeff Buckley.[9] She currently lives in New York City.[10]

Erichsen, known for her edgy, cool appearance, notably has 12 tattoos, the first of which she got at age 16. Her tattoos include "float", written on the left side of her neck, an upside down triangle on the back of her neck, a circle behind her right ear, a cross on her right earlobe, "Serendipity is Life" written on the back of her upper right arm, a revolver on the inside of her upper left arm, "This Too Shall Pass" written on the inside of her upper right arm, "This World Tonight is Mine" written on her right wrist, "Redemption" written on her upper left forearm, three circles on the inside of her left wrist, a star on her upper left torso (just under her armpit) and a lightning bolt her upper right torso.[11] She has said that her tattoos do not affect her work and are easily concealed. Erichsen made a deal with her agent that she could have "as many tattoos as she wants" as long as she didn't cut her hair, although she did, in fact, cut her hair in 2007 after having established herself in the fashion industry.[12]
