Gabriel Sebastian Tamaş (born November 9, 1983 in Braşov) is a Romanian football defender. He currently plays for West Bromwich Albion in the Football League Championship.


Club career

Tamaş started his career at native clubs in lower divisions. In the summer of 2002 he transferred to Dinamo Bucureşti, and a year later went to Galatasaray.

He then moved to FC Spartak Moscow in January 2004, but was loaned back to Dinamo Bucureşti in summer 2004, returning to Spartak in January 2006. Another loan soon followed, this time to Celta de Vigo in summer 2006. The following season he joined AJ Auxerre.

After one year spent at AJ Auxerre he joined Dinamo Bucureşti for a one year loan. On February 14, 2009 he was sent to the reserve team due to an incident involving drinking alcohol drinks while in training. [1]

On July 12, 2009 the Romanian central defender signed his contract with Dinamo Bucureşti for another season, his loan deal with French club AJ Auxerre has been extended. He was also elected captain of the team by his teammates.

On 1 January 2010 Tamaş signed for West Bromwich Albion on loan until the end of the season. He made his debut on 8 January in a 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest.[2]

International career

Tamaş made his debut for Romania against Slovakia, in March 2003.

He was the captain of Romanian U-21 team who finished third in its group in 2006 UEFA U-21 Championship qualification.
