The Game & Watch Gallery series is composed of collections of some of Nintendo's original Game & Watch titles in two styles: original and remade with characters from the Super Mario Bros. series. Known in Japan and Australia as the Game Boy Gallery series, four installments have been released, each for various incarnations of Nintendo's portable systems, like Game Boy and Game Boy Advance. In many cases, the mini-games ported onto these collections exist in their graphically upgraded forms as well as their original ones. Also, the titles often feature actual galleries explaining the history of the Game & Watch system and the various games released for it. The first four titles in the series also feature Super Game Boy borders which mimic the original Game & Watch casing designs. The series was known as Game Boy Gallery in Australia and is one of the very few Australia-only localizations with the series in Australia now known as Game & Watch from GBA onwards.

This is the first of the series in Japan and North America and by far the most common and it features four games. It is known in the US and Europe as Game & Watch Gallery, in Australia as Game Boy Gallery 2.

Players can also choose to play these games in their original form, playing as the character who eventually became known as Mr. Game & Watch. The games play basically the same in their original versions.

Game & Watch Gallery 2

Game & Watch Gallery 2, known in Japan as Game Boy Gallery 2 (ゲームボーイギャラリー2 Gēmu Bōi Gyararii 2?), is the sequel to Game & Watch Gallery. It was first developed by Nintendo and released on November 1, 1998 for the Game Boy Color. This game is known by many names, like Game Boy Gallery 2 (ゲームボーイギャラリー2 Gēmu Bōi Gyararii 2?) in Japan, and as Game Boy Gallery 3 in Australia. It has six games in total.

Game & Watch Gallery 3

Game & Watch Gallery 3, known in Japan as Game Boy Gallery 3 (ゲームボーイギャラリー3 Gēmu Bōi Gyararii 3?) and as Game Boy Gallery 4 in Australia, is the third installment of the Game & Watch Gallery series. It was released in 1999 for the Game Boy Color. It has a total of 11 games.

It also marks one of the last playable appearances to date by Donkey Kong Jr. Several of the games in this title, however, previously appeared in other installments of Game & Watch Gallery. It also includes some unlockable titles, such as The Legend of Zelda series. In to more further interest this is the first game featuring Mr. Game & Watch talk. This entry in the series was titled Game & Watch Gallery Advance in Europe and Australia. For an unknown reason, The fourth game in the series got canceled for a Japanese release.

Game & Watch Collection

Game & Watch Collection is a Nintendo DS game for Club Nintendo members. It is a compilation of three Game & Watch multi-screen games: Donkey Kong, Green House, and Oil Panic. The games come with both Mode A and Mode B as well as the alarm feature, which can be accessed on the start screen. This game is not available for all users, instead of purchase for Club Nintendo members only, which is the case for Australian and North American members. It was released in Europe on 11/12/2009.

Game & Watch Collection 2

Game & Watch Collection 2 is the fourth Japan-only Nintendo DS game for Club Nintendo members. It features two single-screen Game & Watch games, Parachute and Octopus, along with an all-new dual screen game combining Parachute on the top screen with Octopus on the bottom screen. The Games

Modern vs. Classic

Game & Watch Gallery 4 featured both modern and classic versions of its six standard games, as well as the first five unlockable games. The classic version had dot matrix style graphics and the same gameplay as the original Game & Watch handheld games, while the modern version had updated graphics, music, and color and replaced the original characters and items with ones from the Mario series. Also the gameplay was changed in some games and might have had a new challenge.

Standard Games

From the start there are six games that you will be able to play. Both Boxing and Donkey Kong 3 can be played with another player using another Game Boy Advance and a link cable. Only one cartridge is necessary.

  • Boxing - Punch out your opponent before he does the same to you.
  • Donkey Kong 3
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • Fire - Bounce all the occupants of the blazing building to safety using a trampoline
  • Mario's Cement Factory - Deliver the cement to a truck. This is a cookie factory reminiscent of Yoshi's Cookie in modern mode.
  • Rain Shower - Keep the raindrops off the sheets in classic mode, or move your friends away from under Bowser's paint balloons in modern mode.

Locked Games

There are 14 locked games. They are unlocked by collecting stars, which are rewarded every time 200 points are scored in a game. The maximum amount of stars that can be earned in each game is five. The first five games feature both Modern and Classic modes, but the rest can only be played in Classic. The last nine will be displayed in the museum upon unlocking them.
