The northern part of the suburban city was marked by the combat of 19 January 1871 when the Parisians besieged and tried to force the German blockade to join the French troops of Versailles. The monuments that commemorate this event are two streets, Rue du 19 janvier and Rue du Colonel de Rochebrune.
Garches is served by Garches – Marnes-la-Coquette station on the Transilien Paris – Saint-Lazare suburban rail line. This station is located at the border between the commune of Garches and the commune of Marnes-la-Coquette, on the Marnes-la-Coquette side of the border.
