Geonosis is a fictional planet from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. It is the home planet of the Geonosians, one of the founding worlds as well as one of first homeworlds of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and the site of the Battle of Geonosis. The Stalgasin Hive, the largest of the Geonosian hives, was ruled by Poggle the Lesser, the Geonosian archduke, until his death at the end of the Clone Wars (Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith).

Outer Rim

The planet was located less than one parsec from Tatooine. In many ways the planet was similar to Tatooine, in that it was a rocky, desert world. One notable difference was that the planet had large and dense rings in orbit. When Jango Fett was being chased by Obi-Wan Kenobi (in Episode II), he flew directly into the rings to lose Kenobi amongst the rocks that made up the belt.

Export

Geonosis is home to several droid construction facilities, which engineer various battle droids (The Geonosis-based standard droids are colored a reddish-tan color), and the planet is the first to create Super Battle Droids, the successor to the battle droid.

Architecture

The planet's architecture mostly consists of domes and buildings built into caverns and rock spires, giving the surface's landscape a similarity to termite mounds.

Native life

Geonosians are insectoid creatures with the ability to fly.

The planet's most dangerous predator are massiffs, dog-like lizards that are not particularly bright. Geonosians utilize massiffs in addition to larger creatures in captivity for use in their combat arenas. Examples include acklays, reeks, and nexu.

Death Star

It was on Geonosis where the plans for the Galactic Empire's absolute weapon, the Death Star, were developed. After the Separatist defeat at the Battle of Geonosis — the first battle of the Clone Wars — Darth Tyranus, better known as Count Dooku, escaped with these plans to Coruscant, where they could be kept in safety. The planet was then occupied by the Republic.

Storm Commando Project

During the Galactic Civil War, Wedge Antilles crash landed on the planet during a mission to track the source of the Storm Commando Project. There he fought malfunctioning battle droids, stormtroopers, and the Rebel traitor, Sarkli. He manages to escape in a Jedi Starfighter, the one Obi-Wan Kenobi left behind decades ago, and destroys three Imperial Escort Carriers orbiting the planet.

Geonosis was also the location of the Delta Squad commandos' first documented mission. Their mission was to kill a Geonosian leader, destroy a Droid Factory, and destroy one of the Droid Control Ships.

Slave Labor

During the Galactic Civil War, Geonosis's population was enslaved by Grand Moff Tarkin to work on the Death Star project. Since Geonosians were used as slaves, they sided with the Rebel Alliance during the war to defeat the Galactic Empire.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Invasion

Geonosis also was invaded by the Republic in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Poggle the Lesser had built a Droid Factory to redeem himself to Count Dooku. It started off with three jedi generals (Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ki-Adi-Mundi) going through a flak to make a perimeter short of a shield generator that was protecting the factory. Ki-Adi-Mundi and Anakin, with his padawan Ahsoka Tano, got shot down away from the landing zone. Obi-Wan's forces made it through, but his gunship got shot down. Commander Cody made a square where they tried to fight off the Geonosian forces with the injured Obi-Wan. Meanwhile, Ki-Adi-Mundi took a cave as a short cut to the landing zone, though unfortunately it had Geonosians in it. Anakin and his padawan ran into a fortress where they had to destroy it to get pass. Anakin called in an air strike once meeting up with Ki-Adi-Mundi. Obi-Wan and his forces were saved and they took down the shield generator.

Afterwards, Anakin and Master Luminara acted as decoys while their padawans, Ahsoka and Barriss Offee, go through a network of underground tunnels to the factory's power core where they will blow up the factory from the inside. Ahsoka and Barriss plant the bombs but are discovered by Poggle who has his troops to steal the bombs. Without the bombs they decide to destroy the power core by using a tank that had tried to kill them. Though, they expected to be destroyed along with the factory. They destroyed the factory but they managed to live. Anakin and Luminara start a search-and-rescue and eventually find Ahsoka and Barriss.

Then, after the main battles were finished, Luminara went missing in a sandstorm looking for Poggle. When Obi-Wan and Anakin go looking for her, they learn she had been taken by undead geonosians. Anakin and Obi-Wan learn that these zombies can't be killed by a blaster or a lightsaber. Then they learn that Queen Corina the Great is controlling them with bugs that infest the brain and lets her control them. Obi-Wan and Anakin rescue Luminara, arrest Poggle, don't get to learn how the bug controls the brain, and escape by destroying the Queen's cavern.
