Google Profile is a Google service allowing users to collect and display information about themselves.
The Google Account About Profiles page explains profiles are intended to allow control over how users appear to other Google products users but profiles do appear in general search results.
Profiles can be created from the Google Profile start page if one doesn't already exist. Providing original content through certain Google products like Google Knol and Google maps among others requires a profile and users will be prompted to create one.
Profiles contain standard user data like first and last name, nickname and other/former/maiden names as well as fields for current and former places of residence, current and former employers and positions, and school attended.
Users can also add a short text biography (with limited HTML capabilities).
Links associated with the users Google Account are automatically offered for inclusion and custom links may be added.
Photographs from Picasa, Flickr or other image feeds can be included
Contact information (e-mail address(es), phone number(s), street address(es), birthday and Instant Messaging nickname(s)) can be made available through the profile although access to this and certain other profile information can be selctively disclosed.
The URL for a profile can be automatically assigned or users can select custom URLs.
Profiles can be deleted by signing into their Google account, editing their profile and clicking the link at the bottom of the page on the 'About Me' tab. This also disables Google Buzz integration if the user has a Gmail account.
The Google Buzz service automatically integrates profiles.
