Grantham Museum is located at St Peter's Hill, Grantham, Lincolnshire, England. It is run by Lincolnshire County Council in the building provided for it in 1926, although the idea of a museum can be traced back to meetings of the Grantham Scientific society in the 1890s.[1] The building also housed the public library, and was partly funded by the Carnegie fund for such purposes. The Library is now situated elsewhere in the town, and the museum occupies the whole building.
The basis of the collection is material provided by Henry Preston, the first Curator and Founder, and 20th century additions have included material about Sir Isaac Newton and Margret Thatcher. There is also material about the Dambusters Raid. Current acquisitions policy concentrates only on local material.[1]
The museum is open Monday - Saturday 10am - 4pm, and admission is
free.
