Rakometniot Klub Vardar (Handball Club Vardar) is a handball Club from Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. It has been one of the three dominating macedonian handball clubs since the independence of the country in 1992 and regularly represents the country on the international level in the european cup competitions. RK Vardar have been participating the EHF Champions League five times and made it to the semifinals of the Cup Winner's Cup twice, in 1999 and 2005. Except for 2005, when they came in 4th, the club has achieved either Championship or the Second rank in the Macedonian Super League during the past decade since 1999. Currently, RK Vardar has two teams playing in the macedonian Super T-Mobile League, the professional team RK Vardar PRO and the development team MRK Vardar who joined the league with the beginning of the 2008/09 season. Unlike the usual situation in handball of clubs renting halls from municipalities or private owners, RK Vardar itself is the owner of the SRC Kale Sports Hall they play all their home matches in. The capacity of the Arena was expanded to 2.000 seats in 2008. RK Vardar is the new champion in 2009

History

RK Vardar was founded in 1961, as part of the Vardar Sports Club in Skopje, which had been founded in 1947. The handballteam had no role in Yugoslavia, but rose to power in the late 90's becoming one of three clubs ( RK Metalurg and RK Pelister being the others) to dominate the Macedonian handball scene after the independence of the country. They achieved record winner of the Macedonian handball championship by winning their sixth title in 2007 and are the recent record cup winner.
