Hamren is a town and a town area committee in Karbi Anglong district in the Indian state of Assam.


As of 2001 India census,[1] Hamren had a population of 8278. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Hamren has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 56%. In Hamren, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.


Hamren is the headquarters of the western division of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous district. It houses the Office of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) which administers the district and enjoys considerable powers of a state government except in certain departments like Law & Order etc.
