From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hanibal Lucić (c. 1485December 14, 1553) was a Croatian poet and playwright.

Biography

He was born in Hvar, where he lived most of his life. He wrote love poetry, under heavy influence of Francesco Petrarca, but Croatian folklore is also included in his work. He wrote Robinja, the first secular-themed play in history of Croatian literature. He was prone to self-criticism and had most of his work burned; the rest was salvaged and later published by his son Antonij.
