According to the United States Census Bureau, Hanover Township covers an area of 33.71 square miles (87.31 square kilometers); of this, 33.5 square miles (86.77 square kilometers, 99.38 percent) is land and 0.21 square miles (0.54 square kilometers, 0.62 percent) is water.
