Harold Himmel Velde (April 1, 1910 - September 1, 1985) was a United States political figure.


Velde was born near Parkland, Tazewell County, Illinois. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1931 and studied law at the University of Illinois. During World War II, he served as a private in the Signal Corps of the United States Army until 1943 when he was appointed a special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in sabotage and counter-espionage division.

After the war, he worked as a lawyer until being elected a Tazewell County, Illinois judge and served until 1949. He was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-first United States Congress and was reelected three times, serving until 1957.

Velde was the chairman of the House Un-American Activities Committee between 1953 and 1955.

Harold Himmel Velde died in Sun City, Arizona in 1985.
