R.L. Stine's Haunted Lighthouse is a short 4-D film. It debuted in several United States theme parks, including SeaWorld San Diego & SeaWorld San Antonio, in 2003, and stars Lea Thompson, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Sara Paxton, Matt Weinberg, and Bobby Edner. "Weird Al" Yankovic has a bit role. The film is an adaptation of the R. L. Stine novel of the same name, and is directed by Joe Dante and written by Sam Hamm. The film lasts about 25 minutes.
The film has recently began shows at UK theme park Flamingo Land.
Shows formerly located at Busch Gardens Africa and Busch Gardens Europe were replaced by Pirates 4D in early 2006.
The film tells the story of two ghost children who are cursed to remain forever on a Cape Cod beach and in an 1800's era lighthouse. After 100 years, they meet two children vistiting the beach and take them to the lighthouse, hoping to turn them into a ghost like them.
The effects in the show include polarized 3-D glasses, met with water, air and wired 4-D effects. The ending features water cannons which soak many people in the theater.
The film was created by Busch Entertainment Corporation in production with Scholastic and R.L. Stine. It is the first 3-D film featured at Busch Gardens Africa.
