Henry Maske (born January 6, 1964 in Treuenbrietzen, Brandenburg) is a German boxer, one of Germany's most popular sports figures and the most successful German professional boxer ever.

Amateur career

Maske was an Olympic Gold Medalist 1988 in Seoul (middleweight) for East Germany. His results were:

  • Defeated Helman Palije (Malawi) 5-0
  • Defeated Sello Mojela (Lesotho) walk-over
  • Defeated Michele Mastrodonato (Italy) 5-0
  • Defeated Chris Sande (Kenya) 5-0
  • Defeated Egerton Marcus (Canada) 5-0

In addition, Maske won the 1989 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Moscow and the silver medal at the 1986 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Reno.

Pro career

During his career, Maske was a five-time boxing champion of East Germany. After reunification in 1990, he turned professional, and became world title holder (IBF) in the light heavyweight category, defending his title eleven times between 1993 and 1996, before retiring in 1996 after suffering a loss at the hands of Virgil Hill. In 2007, he won in a rematch.[1]

Life After Boxing

He currently owns three McDonalds franchises in Germany.

Comeback

After an 11 year retirement, he avenged his only defeat as a professional against Virgil Hill. The fight was held on March 31, 2007, in Munich, Germany. Maske won by unanimous decision after 12 rounds.
