House of Blues currently operates 12 live music concert halls and restaurants in major markets throughout the United States. Founded in a historic Harvard Square house in 1992 by Isaac Tigrett, co-founder of Hard Rock Cafe, and Dan Aykroyd, House of Blues has grown into a premier live music club venue for touring bands. Nightly live music and southern-inspired cuisine define the venue "where music and food feed the soul".

The first House of Blues opened its doors on November 26, 1992 in the Harvard Square commercial district and retail area of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The company was originally financed by Dan Aykroyd, Aerosmith, Paul Shaffer, River Phoenix, Jim Belushi and Harvard University among others. This original location has since closed[3] however, the hands-in-concrete driveway where members of the Blues Brothers and others left their mark, still remains.

Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi remain closely associated with the brand and are present for most openings, most recently they attended and performed at the Grand Opening Celebrations of the Houston and Boston House of Blues.

On July 5, 2006, Live Nation, the largest live entertainment company, acquired House of Blues. As a division of Live Nation, the company currently operates 12 clubs throughout North America with its location in Atlantic City being franchised. Nine of these locations also feature the VIP membership club, Foundation Room.

Current locations include Orlando; Cleveland; Myrtle Beach; Chicago; New Orleans; Las Vegas; Boston; West Hollywood; Anaheim; San Diego; Dallas; and Houston.

House of Blues also licenses its brand to a location at the Showboat in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
