Encyclopedia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The House of Plettenberg is a Westphalian noble family from the Uradel. Its origins date back at least until 1187 when Heidolphus de Plettenbrath was mentioned in a document of Philip I (Archbishop of Cologne)[1]. The family consists of different branches, two of which are still existing today: Counts of Plettenberg-Schwarzenberg (protestant) and Counts of Plettenberg-Lenhausen (Roman Catholic).
