IB Spanish B

Caveat: It's been a while since I took this course, so it may be a bit out of date.

Structure of Syllabus The SL curriculum is centred around 12 themes, of which 6 are to be studied. These themes are topics like:

  • Women/Gender Roles in the Spanish-speaking world (La Mujer en la Sociedad Hispano-Hablante)
  • Business and Commerce (Negocio y Comercio)
  • Population/Immigration (MigraciĆ³n)
  • Religion (ReligiĆ³n)
  • Culture: Attitudes, Beliefs, and Values (Actitudes, creencias, y valores)
  • Environment (El Medio Ambiente)

Generally, studying a theme should include a variety of material in Spanish emphasizing recent sources such as magazine and newspaper articles as well as film and television sources (our class watched the news programs on Univision and Telemundo every morning to hear the language). While reading classical Spanish literature is often included, the program definitely emphasizes contemporary writing and sources over traditional ones.
