IS (Infinite Stratos) (IS〈インフィニット・ストラトス〉) is a Japanese light novel series by Izuru Yumizuru with illustrations by okiura. As of June 2010, 5 volumes have been published by Media Factory under their MF Bunko J label. A manga adaptation by Kenji Akaboshi started serialization in the seinen manga magazine Monthly Comic Alive on May 27, 2010. An anime adaptation has been announced.[1]

Japan engineered an armed powered exoskeleton "Infinite Stratos" (IS) and it became the mainstream of weapons. Since only women can operate IS, women dominate the society over men. Orimura Ichika is a 15 year old boy and accidentally touches an IS placed in the IS pilot training school. He is found to be the only man who can operate IS and forced to enter the training school. Ichika's busy school life surrounded by girls has begun.
Orimura Ichika: The Protagonist of Infinite Stratos, the younger of the two Orimura siblings, Ichika and his sister, a legendary IS pilot were orphaned at a young age and was raised by his older sister. When it was revealed that Ichika could pilot the IS, he was given a scholarship as he was one of the few males who can pilot the IS. A shy yet gentle person, he has difficulty adjusting to an all girl school environment
