The Illinois Air National Guard is the subordinate air force element of the Illinois National Guard. It is located in the state of Illinois.
The Illinois Adjutant General is the commander in chief of the Illinois National Guard. Currently, the AG is Maj. Gen. William L. Enyart, who succeeded Brigadier General Randal E. Thomas.
The Assistant Adjutant General, Air National Guard is responsible for command, organization, and such. The first Assistant AG (Air) was Brigadier General Ralph A. Bush, a decorated World War II pilot. Currently, is it Brigadier General Harold E. Kiestler. A past Assistant Adjutant General was Brigadier General Frank Rezac, a distinguished graduate of what is now Peoria Notre Dame High School in Peoria, Illinois.
The Headquarters, IANG is located in Camp Lincoln, Springfield. Gen. Kiestler is the Air Commander of this unit.

The 183d Fighter Wing will lose their F-16 aircraft as a result of the DOD's 2005 BRAC (base re-alignment and closing); however, the base will remain open, serving as a maintenance depot for the F-16 aircraft engine.
