Ines Paulke completed training as a nurse. Thereafter, she took classical vocal studies at the music school district Gera and in 1983 was awarded a grant from the Committee for Entertainment Arts. Until 1986, she played in the band Datzu, but left to start her solo career.[2] She received awards at Workers' Festivals and other competitions for amateurs. [3]
With Anke Schenker and Angelika Weiz, she performed as the Swing Sisters, and founded the United Voices Gospel Project. In 2003 she wrote and sang with the US artist Brady Swenson the song for Leipzig's Olympic bid.[4] They also worked with Arnold Fritzsch, and portrayed the woman scarecrow in Reinhard Lakomy's Children's Program Geschichtenlieder ('enchanted forest in a dream'). [5] In addition to her career as a singer Ines Paulke took engagements in cabaret and as an actress.[6]
After breaking a long-standing partnership with pianist Peter Schenderlein, in 2007, she moved in with new boyfriend Allgäu Helmut Maier, a freight forwarder she had met through a contact on the Internet. In 2009, this relationship collapsed. Paulke became very depressed. She arrived in Berlin, then moved into her own apartment.[7]
On the night of 16 February 2010, Paulke took her own life in Thannhausen, aged 51.[8]
