In the U.S. state of Georgia, Interstate 85 runs northeast-southwest through Atlanta. It is also designated — but not signed — as State Route 403. In downtown Atlanta, I-85 joins with Interstate 75 as the Downtown Connector. I-85 in Georgia follows the general corridor of U.S. Route 29. However, from Atlanta northeast to the South Carolina state line, it strays from this route, running about halfway between US 29 and the U.S. Route 23/U.S. Route 123 corridor. (Near Greenville, South Carolina, I-85 joins US 29, while US 123 enters that city separately.)
The 10th/14th/17th Street exits in downtown Atlanta are under major construction with bridge replacement and reconfiguration that will run through December 2009. [2]
Exits are numbered from south to north, in accordance with AASHTO
guidelines.
