Islamia Science College is located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It is one of the largest colleges in Pakistan. This college provides faculties of Science, Law, Commerce and Arts. This college is located just opposite Dawood College of Engineering and Technology. Islamia Science College, Islamia Law College, Islamia Commerence and Arts College are in one Complex which is founded by Quaid-e-Taleem Late Abdul Rehman Muhammad Qureshi. The college was inaugrated by Field Marshal Ayub Khan in August, 1961.

History

Late Abdul Rehman Muhammad Qureshi was the founder of seventeen schools and colleges which were operational under his own personal administration. Quaid-e-Taleem Mr. A. M. Qureshi introduced in Karachi the Qureshi Night College. Mr. A. M. Qureshi was involved with the Muslim League and he made significant contributions to the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. He stood side by side with Quaid-e-Azam Mr. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, offering of himself and his services without hesitation. Quaid-e-Taleem Mr. A. M. Qureshi held the posts of M.N.A. and M.P.A. among other dignified and worthy positions. Quaid-e-Taleem Mr. A. M. Qureshi also served as the first President of the Karachi Muslim League in 1947. Quaid-e-Taleem Mr. A.M Qureshi died on 22 June, 1989 (17th Zeeqa'ad A.H.).

KARACHI (P/R) While addressing a Board Meeting of the Islamic Education Trust, Mr. Syed Kamran Hussain, the General Secretary of the Islamic Education Trust and also the Grandson of Quaid-e- Taleem Late Mr. A. M. Qureshi (Founder of Islamia College Complex Karachi), said that the IET board welcomes decision by the government to denationalize the educational institutions of Pakistan. This decision will enhance the education level in the institutions of the country and will in effect bolster the country’s economy. Islamia College Complex Karachi is built on approximately six acres of land in the heart of Karachi, near Jinnah’s tomb. Mr. Syed Kamran Hussain said that the Islamic Education Trust will keep Late Mr. Abdul Rahman Muhammad Qureshi’s dream of providing quality education to the masses alive. He added that the IET will work to uphold the principles of serving the general public set forth by Mr. A. M. Qureshi, and fellow founder trustees in the IET registered in 1958.

Mrs. Mumtaz Muzakkir, Founder Trustee & Treasurer of Islamic Education Trust (Reg’d.) 1958, has got permission dated 16 August 2007 from Honorable High Court of Sindh Karachi to repair the graves of her father, Quaid-e-Taleem Late Mr. A.M. Qureshi (Founder Islamic Education Trust & Islamia College Complex Karachi), Khadim-e-Islam Late Allama Shabbir Ahmed Usmani, Mohadis-e-Azam Late Allama Suleman Nadvi, Former Governor State Bank of Pakistan Late Mr. Zahid Hussain and Khadim-e-Qaum Late Mr. Syed Ahmed Ashraf. As these graves are located in the confines of Islamia College Karachi and as interim caretaker of Islamia College Karachi, Mr. Kadir Bux Umrani is ordered by High Court of Sindh Karachi to supervise a repairing of graves, which Mrs. Mumtaz Muzakkir will personally finance.

Alleged Plot To Grab Islamia College Building Karachi, Tuesday, November 18, 2008,

Islamic Education Trust (IET) General Secretary, Syed Kamran Hussain, has alleged that Afroze Shah, who is claiming to be a trustee of IET and the official assignee, Kadir Bukhsh Umrani, are partners and both want to grab the Islamia College building complex. Mr. Hussain said that advocate Naeem Suleman (for official assignee, Karachi) is in civil case of ex 17/2008 in the court of 3rd Rent Controller, East, Karachi (IET through Official Assignee Karachi Umrani Vs CDGK and Others) and this same Advocate (for Afroze Shah) is in criminal revision no 54/2008 in the Sindh High Court (Mrs. Mumtaz Muzakkir Vs Afroze Shah). He said that the same person is the Advocate for Shah and Umrani which is evidence that the two are partners and want to grab the aforesaid building.

The college has faced many disputes and a lot of media attention for political riots and killings. Many students of the Islami Jamiat Talba group have been indulged in fights with PSF and APMSO groups, during the 70s era this college was centre of gun firing, public shootouts and political nuisances which gave Islamia college a bad reputation.

In 2004, the college faced building issues in which the official assignee karachi, Mr. Kadir Bukhsh Umrani filed a rent case before the Rent Controller East Karachi for recovery of rent of the building and vacation of the premises[1]. The Student organization protested against the issue, the islamia college students filled in local government buses in route no 11C protested for 30 minutes outside the karachi press club. A student protest outside the Islamia College took an ugly turn on 29 October 2008 after a clash erupted between [Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba] students and the area police. A female journalistwas injured and six students were arrested in the incident, Taha Riaz, IJT head of Islamia College, Nauman Hameed, Makhdoom Hussain, Abdul Wahab, Niaz Ahmed, and Sonu Khan under sections 147 and 148. The students had been given half a road to protest on, but they took over the entire road. When they were asked to clear the way for traffic, especially for ambulances and fire brigades, they instead started pelting stones.[2]The stones hit nearby cars, pedestrians, police, shops, a cameraman of Express News (Pakistan) and the right leg of a female journalist which bled a lot. Things are yet to be sorted out by the Sindh High Court. Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad Khan in this regard apprised Pir Mazhar Ul Haq about the measures taken by Sindh government to resolve the issue. Governor Sindh also agreed the college will be equipped with scientific equipment and modern labs while lack of educational staff will also be resolved.

Notable Graduates

Large number of prominent personalities belonging to different walks of life had studied in the Islamia College Karachi, including Prof Hassan Askari, Allama Fazal Alam Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Altaf Hussain, former MPA Nasrullah Shaji, Karachi University’s Dr Mustafa Kamal, Dr Sabira Sultana, and a number of cricketers such as Zaheer Abbas, Shahid Afridi, Asif Mujtaba, Azim Hafeez and Olympian Munawwar-uz-Zaman.
