History

ETR 500 train used for the testing of the line.

The Istanbul-Ankara Main Line is Turkey's most important rail line. The line has heavy traffic but is only single track, and speeds don't go over 120 km/h for passenger trains. In 2003 TCDD started to build the high speed line between Eskişehir and Ankara. This part of the line was completed and opened to service in March, 2009. The part from Esenkent to Sincan is still under construction though. After the completion of the Ankara-Eskişehir portion of the line TCDD started construction from Eskişehir to Istanbul. At Polatlı the Polatlı-Konya High Speed Rail Line will branch south towards Konya.
