The JCPenney Afterschool Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established by JCPenney Corporation in an effort to make families and communities more aware of the ever-increasing after school programs offered to keep children safe. JCPenney created the fund to help foster every child's academic, physical, and social development.

Partners

The JCPenney Afterschool Fund supports various after school partners through grants provided annually. The partners include the Boys and Girls club of America, the YMCA of the USA, National 4-H, and the United Way.

Contributions and Fundraising

Since its founding in 1999, the JCPenney Afterschool Fund has contributed over $70 million to various programs across the country for children in need. They accomplish this goal in various fund raising efforts that include:

Afterschool Round Up In 2007, JCPenney began "rounding up" for kids at all of its stores nationwide. Customers making purchases at any JCPenney store were asked if they would like to round up their purchase to the next whole dollar amount. By doing so, the difference would be donated to the JCPenney Afterschool Fund. In 2008, a new dimension was added to the round-up idea. Instead of the money raised being added to the general fund of the JCPenney Afterschool Fund, the money would be donated to a local JCPenney After School Partner in the customer's community. In 2008, over $3.3 million was raised.

NFL Take a Player to School Kids can register to take a player to school and show them off. Typically the NFL player talks about motivation and setting goals, creating high standards for the students.

Sponsorship of the Rascal Flatts Unstoppable Tour JCPenney is the official sponsor of the Rascal Flatts Unstoppable tour. The band will promote JCPenney's brand "American Living," a concept by Polo Ralph Lauren's Global Concept Group. In conjunction with the tour, Rascal Flatts has written a bonus track for their new CD to debut April 7, 2009, entitled "American Living." Customers purchasing the CD from any JCPenney store will find the track on their album. $1 of each CD sold will be donated to the JCPenney Afterschool Fund.
