She has two elder brothers, John and Stephen.
She emigrated from Northern Ireland aged 3 where her father was in the Royal Ulster constabulary. They assumed that her father would be able to join the Australian police when they emigrated, but because of various rules and regulations, he couldn't.[2]
Aged 19, she spent a year backpacking around the world.
She attended acting school with Neighbours cast mate Janet Andrewartha.
Woodburne is a graduate of the National Theatre School in Melbourne.[3] After three years she graduated and was lucky enough to walk straight into the role of Josie in the mini series Outbreak of Love.
However, Woodburne is best known for playing Susan Kennedy in Neighbours, whom she has played since 1994; and Julie Egbert "Chook" in Prisoner, whom she played from 1985 to 1986.
The poem read by Julie in episode 582 of Prisoner was actually penned by Jackie herself.
Woodburne previously played the sister of Alan Fletcher in Cop Shop in 1982-1983, before they were cast as husband and wife Karl and Susan in Neighbours.
Other soap opera roles include a brief appearance in Sons and Daughters playing Patricia Dunne in a flashback, A Country Practice, and The Young Doctors where she played Maggie Gordon from 1980 to 1981.
In 2005, she was nominated for the Best Female Performance in a Soap Opera award at the international Rose d'Or television festival, but was beaten by English actress Lesley-Anne Down.
