Jacopo Peterman (normally referred to as J. Peterman, Mr. Peterman, or simply Peterman) is a secondary character on the television show Seinfeld played by John O'Hurley. He is the eccentric owner of the J. Peterman catalog sales company and is also Elaine Benes' boss during her employment there. According to O'Hurley, Peterman's manner of speaking is inspired by "'40s radio drama, combined with a bit of a bad Charles Kuralt."[1] She meets him in "The Understudy", the last episode of season six.

Although the real J. Peterman company and its founder John Peterman are based in Lexington, Kentucky, not New York City, the catalog describes—as portrayed on the show—with extravagant prose the hard-to-find clothing and accessories it sells. In 2001, O'Hurley became a major investor in the company, and sits on its board.[2][3]
