     It is not totally known what brand it is, but it is definitely a copy he bought for 200 dollars. The pickups were stock and being a copy, probably were below-average in performance. James later installed a Seymour Duncan Invader into the neck position. .The Invader is a high output humbucker that works best in alder bodied guitars.^ The best guitarists in the world are all probably working in a Guitar Center or in-studio, so why aren't they famous?

The neck has been glued twice and has been retired by Hetfield stating it is too fragile and goes out of tune easily. .He has started using a Gibson Flying V, much to the same design as his copy, it features EMG 81 in the bridge and a EMG 60 in the neck, and also has Sperzel locking tuners like many of his guitars.^ His ESP's are given to him for free and he buys his Gibsons plus he has stated many times that having a Gibson Signature guitar is a dream of his.
