Japanese submarine I-58

I-58 was a Japanese B3 type submarine in World War II. She was built on 7 September 1944 at Yokosuka, Japan. She entered service on 4 December to 15th Submarine Scandon. served to Commanded by Lieutenant Cmdr. Mochitsura Hashimoto (1909–2000) Shortly after maiden voyage, Four Kaiten were settled her instead of 140 mm (5.5 in) L/40 11th Year Type Naval gun. After modified to Kaiten career ship, she departed Kure on 31 December 1944 with Kaiten torpedoes, but no encounter with enemy ships. Her catapult and aircraft equipment were removed in order to enable her to carry and to launch up to six Kaiten manned torpedoes. On 1 March 1945 she joined Operation Gen 4th, but the operation was cancelled in 5 days. then she was ordered to support Operation Tan. She successfully support the 762 nd Naval Aviation scandon to navigate them to Ulithi Atoll for their kamikaze attacking. She returned to Kure. On 31 March 1945 she joined to operation Gen 5th and she sailed to Okinawa, therefore she couldn't contact to any target ship. She returned to Kure on 30 April 1945. she departed Hirao to patroll eastern Sea of Philppine on 13 July 1945. During the patrol mission she sank the USS Indianapolis by shooting 6 regular torpedoes on 30 July 1945. She was scuttled off Gotō Islands, Japan on 1 April 1946.
