The Jedi Academy is a training establishment in the fictional universe of Star Wars.

History in Star Wars

The Jedi Academy, also known as Praxeum, was first housed in the Great Massassi Temple and had 12 original students, including Kyle Katarn, Brakiss, Corran Horn, Dorsk 81, Gantoris, Kam Solusar, Kirana Ti, Streen, Tionne, and eventually Cilghal, Mara Jade and Kyp Durron. Cray Mingla and Nichos Marr may also have been two of the original students.

Use in story lines

In 11 ABY, Luke Skywalker began the reconstruction of the Jedi Order with Force-sensitive recruits he had encountered over the years since the defeat of the Galactic Empire at Endor. The New Republic gave him Yavin 4 to use as a training facility for his new Jedi apprentices.

Luke has been known to leave the Academy in times of crisis to help the New Republic, leaving it in the capable hands of Streen, and later Kam and Tionne Solusar.

One of the trials the Academy came up against, was when Desann planned to use an army of Reborn Jedi, and Shadowtroopers to invade the Academy and restore the Galactic Empire. Kyle Katarn was able to stop most of the invasion and slay Desann.

Years later, Tavion, apprentice of Desann, returned with a Sith Cult named the Disciples of Ragnos. The left over reborn from Desann's project joined Tavion's cult as the 'New Reborn'. Also, Tavion made her own troops using Force power from a sceptor belonging to Marka Ragnos, an ancient Sith Lord. A major battle between the cult and the Academy occurred at Korriban, where Ragnos had been buried. Tavion was trying to resurrect him. Fortunately, the Jedi stopped this from happening, and Tavion was killed by the spirit of Marka Ragnos when he possessed her to fight Jaden Korr.

When the Yuuzhan Vong attacked Yavin 4 and destroyed the Massassi Temple, Talon Karrde and Booster Terrik helped the few Jedi Knights and the many Jedi children escape their clutches, making the Errant Venture and then the Maw the home of the Jedi Academy.

Most of the Jedi in Luke's New Jedi Order have been trained at the Academy and learned at least somewhat directly from him. The Jedi Academy, wherever it is, tends to be a base of operations for the Jedi, and sometimes a home when they are not performing other jobs for Luke or going about their personal lives.

Shortly after the war with the Vong ended, Luke established a new Praxeum on Ossus.

The Academy is visited and appears in the games Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

Jedi Academies established in real world

Jedi Academies have been established in Surrey, England and in Romania.

Jaden Korr

  • I wouldn't worry about that.
  • You seem really nervous.
  • Nice work, Jaden. Some rescue mission.
  • Where is this blasted droid?!
  • These are not the droids we're looking for.
  • Not unless you count the Sand People I ran into!
  • A Jedi, me? No, not yet, I'm one of Kyle Katarn's students.
  • I can't wait! (after defeating Alora on Hoth)
  • Thank you, Master Skywalker. Master,... uh Kyle.
  • You don't look like much of a captive, Rosh! Did you dream this up, or was it Tavion's idea?
  • How do I know you won't betray me again!? You're always trying to beat me! How do I know this isn't just another trick?

Light Side Ending

  • I'm sorry, Rosh, you're right. I almost let my anger get the best of me. Let's get out of here.
  • Stand down, Alora! You were no match for me on Hoth, and now, I am a Jedi Knight!
  • Thank you, but it was Rosh who made me realize what the right choice was. Tell him that when he wakes up.
  • Tavion! This stops here!
  • You're delusional! Kyle told me all about you, how you went crawling away after he defeated you!
  • That's Jedi KNIGHT, Ragnos!
  • It's over. Ragnos will not be ressurected. The scepter has been destroyed.
  • (When asked about Tavion) Dead. Ragnos had possessed her. Her body couldn't withstand the corruption. When I destroyed the scepter and Ragnos left her body, There was nothing left.
  • Thank you, Master Skywalker. But I couldn't have done it without Kyle.
  • As luck would have it, I am! (light side ending after Kyle asks if Jaden is ready for another mission)

Dark Side Ending

  • (to Rosh after being told to let go of his anger) Why should I? You yourself said how powerful the dark side was.
  • No, you were weak!
  • Why should I trade one master for another? The scepter is too powerful for someone as weak as Tavion... It should belong to ME!
  • Oh, no. This is just the beginning.
  • Rosh was weak! He could not grasp the full power of the dark side!
  • Then stop me, Master!

Rosh Penin

  • This should keep you busy until I finish the course. (before sending a droid after you)

Light Side Ending

  • Thank you, Jaden.
  • I'll be... (falls unconscious)
  • Yes, Master Skywalker. Thank you.

Dark Side Ending

  • Jaden, NO!

Kyle Katarn

  • Kyle Katarn, at your service. Welcome to a day in the life of a Jedi. (after finding Jaden unconscious)
  • Stay here and investigate? I'd love to.
  • We've been looking into the shuttle crash and it doesn't seem like a mechanical failure or laser damage was responsible. It's almost as if something just...tore apart the engines.
  • Remember, no force power is inherently evil... it's how you use them.
  • This one's mine. (about an enemy)
  • (to Jaden when he is about attack Rosh)

Light Side Ending

  • Sith Spit! I need to get him to a bacta tank. Go to Korriban and help Luke and the others. I'll be there as soon as I can.
  • Jaden, I sensed your struggle with the dark side. I'm glad you made the right choice.
  • (after being thanked by Jaden) Don't get all mushy on me, kid. C'mon, let's get outta here.

Dark Side Ending

  • are a Jedi. [Rosh Penin: Thank...You] (if you choose the dark side)
  • But I've still lost Jaden. Where did he/she go? (Realises) Oh no. I've got to get to Korriban!
  • Jaden stop! [Jaden Korr: Don't get in my way, Kyle!]
  • Jaden, I know you're angry, but it's not too late to renounce the dark side. Tavion and her cult have been stooped, we can end this here. [Jaden Korr: Oh no. This is just the beginning!]
  • Jaden, the lure of the dark side is strong but it will ultimately destroy you! Fight it! Rosh resisted it, you can too! [Jaden Korr: Rosh was weak! He was too 'afraid' to grasp the true power of the dark side!]
  • I can't let you do this, Jaden. [Jaden Korr: Then stop me, 'master'!]

Luke Skywalker

  • I'd like to welcome all new students to the Jedi Academy. Here, you will be trained in the ways the Force. You will learn to defend yourself with a lightsaber. You will also learn diplomacy, history and more.
  • Rosh Penin, you will be asigned to Master Katarn. Jaden Korr, you'll also work with Master Katarn. Now, let's begin with your first lessons, and the may the Force be with you.

Light Side Ending

  • Jaden, you did more than we could have ever hoped. You have become a true Jedi.
  • I've heard from the New Republic. The Imperials supporting the Disciples of Ragnos have been defeated have been rounded up. It seems they lost their power when the scepter was destroyed.
  • Rosh, I hope your experience has taught you the patience and humility that may one day will turn you into a great Jedi.
  • Jaden, you fought bravely, resisted the Dark Side, and saved another Jedi from certain death. You will be a valuable member of the Jedi Order.

Dark Side Ending

  • (after finding Kyle buried in rubble) Kyle, what happened here?
  • (about Jaden) I... misjudged him. I'm sorry, Kyle.
  • No, Kyle. Yoda and Ben were great teachers, yet even they lost students. I can still sense good in him [Jaden]. There's always hope, Kyle, remember that.
  • (about the defeat of Tavion and the Disciples of Ragnos) But the scepter is too powerful. We must find Jaden and destroy it.
  • Be careful. If there is anything I can do to help... (Kyle Katarn: I will)
  • And may the Force be with you, Kyle.

Dark Side Ending

  • [Jaden Korr: Tavion! Give me the scepter!] Ah, Kyle's good student...or is it? I sense the dark side in you. Are you here to witness the resurrection? [Jaden Korr: No! I'm here to kill you. Something my old master couldn't do]
  • But why? With Ragnos reborn the Jedi will be wiped out and we can serve him as he rules the galaxy. [Jaden Korr: I will no longer serve anyone! I will have the scepter and it's power for myself, now give it to me!]
  • Impudent whelp. I will enjoy slaying you.
  • I...will not I did before Katarn...finish it. Kill me.

Marka Ragnos

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This is impossible! I will return, Jedi! One day I will return and annihilate you all!
