Amar Choudhary (born 4 January 1983), better known by his stage name Jiiva (Tamil: ஜீவா), is an Indian film actor, who has predominantly appeared in Tamil-language films. Son of well-known film producer R. B. Choudhary, he started his career as a child artiste in his father’s films in 1996. His professional career began seven years later with the film Aasai Aasaiyai. Since, he has worked in a number of critically and commercially successful films and has established himself as one of the leading young actors in Tamil cinema.

He had his first major success with Ameer's Raam (2005), for which he won the Best Actor Award at the Cyprus International Film Festival.[1] His commercially successful films, apart from Raam, include E (2006), Thenavattu (2008) and Siva Manasula Sakthi (2008).

Career

He started his career as a child actor in two of his father's productions. His debut film as a lead was Aasai Aasaiyai. The films Thittikudhey and Raam followed, the latter being a major financial success. It was screened at Indian Panorama and later at the Cyprus International Film Festival, where it won two awards - the Best Actor award for Jiiva and the Best Musical Score Award for its music director, Yuvan Shankar Raja.[2]

Later on Jiiva appeared in other hit films such as Aran where he acted alongside Mohanlal as an Indian army soldier. He also made his debut in Malayalam cinema with Keerthi Chakra, the original version of Aran. His 2006 release E was also a critically acclaimed film. His 2007 film Kattradhu Thamizh received highly positive reviews and met with universal critical acclaim upon its release was registered as the "Performance of his lifetime" in his establishing acting career.[citation needed]

His latest releases are Thenavattu and Siva Manasula Sakthi. The former is an action entertainer while the latter is a breezy romantic film. Siva Manasula Sakthi is probably Jiiva's biggest hit after Dishyum. He is currently working on the films Kacheri Arambam and Singam Puli.
