Jegath Gaspar Raj (known as 'Fr.Jegath Gaspar Raj') is a Chennai based Catholic priest. His academic qualifications include bachelor degrees in History, Philosophy, Theology and Masters in Political Science, and Strategic Studies. He served seven years as an international broadcast journalist, co-created Chennai Sangamam festival. He played the important role in the making of Thiruvasagam in Symphonic Oratorio with music director Ilayaraja.
Jegath Gaspar Raj is a staunch democrat with fervent faith in the ideals of freedom, equity and fairness. He fiercely resists every form of fundamentalism and believes very much in dialogue between religions and cultures. Through international radio he reunited around 4600 Sri Lankan Tamil families who were disintegrated by the civil war between 1996-2000[1].
Jegath Gaspar has written four books and several articles in Tamil. He has also penned lyrics for more than 75 devotional and theme based songs.
Jegath Gaspar Raj co-founded the GiveLife project along with Akhila Srinivasan to support education of the underprevileged children. Currently the project supports 14600 such children. He is also the architect of the historic GiveLife Chennai International Marathon.
The Naller publications which he founded has so far published 21 books in Tamil.
The Chennai Sangamam which he cocreated with Kanimozhi has evolved
in to a true city festival while giving new life to several folk
art forms of Tamil Nadu. The festival happens during Pongal
festival bringing around 2000 artists on a single platform.
