Jentina Chapman was born in a caravan in Woking. She grew up in West Molesey, Surrey, with her 13 brothers and sisters. In 2005, she dated The Prodigy frontman Keith Flint.[2]
After an advertising campaign on television and features in various UK music magazines, (notably NME), her debut single "Bad Ass Strippa" was released in the summer of 2004. Sampling an O'Jays song, the song topped the Box chart for a week, but this did not translate into sales and ultimately it reached number 22 in the UK Singles Chart.[3 ] Considering the promotion, this was disappointing for Jentina's record label and they quickly restyled her image and sound. Enlisting serial hitmakers Cathy Dennis and Greg Wells to write the next single, "French Kisses" was a more R&B-oriented record. The single was released in the autumn of 2004, entering the UK chart at number 20. Jentina released another single after this in Italy only, "Mysterious". With little promotion, it reached the Top 30 in Italy. Her debut album Jentina was then released, again, only in Italy.
The possible reason that Jentina's career was not as successsful as hoped, is that her song "Bad Ass Strippa" was parodied by the grime MC Lady Sovereign, and retitled "Sad Arse Strippa". In the same year however, "Bad Ass Strippa" , "French Kisses" and "Mysterious" gained worldwide exposure after featuring in episodes of CSI:New York.[4] In 2006, "Mysterious" underscored some of the audition stages of MTV's DanceLife.[5]
In November 2007, Jentina represented lingerie brand Wonderbra, following on from the likes of Eva Herzigová and Caprice. She featured in a spoof video[6] of the Cadbury's popular Gorilla television advertisement, in which a gorilla played the drums to the Phil Collins single, "In The Air Tonight".[7]
