The Jerusalem Islamic Waqf is an Islamic trust most well-known for managing the current Islamic edifices on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem. It has governed access to the geographic region since the Muslim reconquest of the Kingdom of Jerusalem in 1187, and retained autonomy over the Temple Mount after the Israeli conquest of the city during the 1967 War.
It has been a source of controversy among Religious Jewish groups in Israel due to its ban against non-Muslim access to the Temple Mount, a ban which is supported by Israeli troops who routinely block access to the site.
The Waqf consists of the a Director, the Mufti and the Islamic Council.
