From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Slabyk was the Art Director/Creative Director for Barack Obama's 2008 campaign for President of the United States.[1][2][3][4]

Prior to joining the Obama campaign, Slabyk worked as a Senior Art Director and Graphic Designer for various design firms and advertising agencies in Chicago, such as Ogilvy & Mather, FCB (now Draftfcb), and Leo Burnett Worldwide. He also co-founded celsiusDesign, a branding & design agency, with friend and design partner, Shane Parrish.

John originally gained notoriety in 2003 with a public proposal, known as The New Blue & Gold Project, to rebrand the Buffalo Sabres by modernizing their original identity (introduced in 1970). The proposal, fueled through a grassroots movement, gained much attention from Sabres fans, especially after the team released a controversial new identity which returned the team to their original blue & gold, but replaced the crest with a new stylized yellow bison, which eventually earned the nickname "Buffaslug".[5]
