John Thomas Harrison was born in July 17, 1880 in Byers Green, England to Joseph Harrison and Sarah Jane Raisbeck. He is living with his parents in Middlestone, Durham, England in 1881. He immigrated with his parents and sister to the United States between 1883 and 1885. John was living with his parents in Benzinger, Elk County, Pennsylvania in 1900. John married Mary Susannah VanBuskirk, daughter of Thomas A. VanBuskirk and Mary Elmira Brown, about 1905. They lived in Weedville, Jay Township, Elk County, Pennsylvania where John worked as a coal miner. In the 1910 census, boarders in his household were George Diez, Thomas Smart, Charles Erickson, and John Mock. On September 12, 1918, John registered for World War I. According to the registration card, John was a miner and worked in Byrnedale, Jay Township, Elk County, Pennsylvania. In 1920, those who were boarders in John's household were Abraham Mayes, John Filbough, George E. Boeker, Albert Meyer, Volover Andrews, and Joesph Getz. Sometime between 1920 and 1930, they moved to Fox, Elk County, Pennsylvania as they appear there in the 1930 census. John and Mary appear on the 1930 census where John was a farmer in Fox, Elk County, Pennsylvania. By 1942, John is living in Kersey, Fox Township, Elk County, Pennsylvania where he works for Western Pennsylvania as a Timekeeper. He registered in the Fourth Draft of World War II on April 27, 1942. At the time, it is unknown if his wife Mary is still living, as she is unmentioned on the registration card. On the card, he is described as being 5' 8" tall, about 150 pounds, brown eyes, gray hair, a light complextion, and wears glasses.
