Joona Tapio Puhakka (born June 23, 1982 in Kerava) is a diver from Finland, who competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, Sydney 2000, Ahthens 2004, and Beijing in 2008. He won the bronze medal in the men's 1-meter springboard at the 2003 World Championships. Joona is also co-owner of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) record for most championships won in diving. Joona competed as a student athlete for Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona from August 2002 until his graduation in May 2006 when he earned his degree in Marketing from the W.P.Carey School Of Business. While at ASU, Joona trained at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center under head coach Mark Bradshaw. Bradshaw himself an Olympic diver having competed in the 1988 Olympic games in Seoul, South Korea where he finished 4th on the 3 meter springboard. In his spare time Puhakka is an avid golfer.
Puhakka started out as a swimmer. He changed over to the diving platform when this fun sport started to become more interesting than doing lengths of the pool. Puhakka is a product of the Vantaa Swimming Club.
